2 teachers die in Shopian accident
Shopian, Aug 16: Tragedy descended upon two villages in south Kashmir's Shopian district late Saturday afternoon when an accident claimed the lives of two government teachers.
They were identified as Riyaz Ahmad Dar, son of Muhammad Ibrahim of Kundalan and Sajad Ahmad Shah, son of Ghulam Ahmad of New Colony Largma. An official said that the incident occurred at around 4:30 pm near Habdipora village when a speeding vehicle hit a motorcycle ridden by the victims.
The official said that Riyaz died on the spot while Sajad suffered grievous injuries.
Medical Superintendent District Hospital Shopian Khalid Abbas told Greater Kashmir that Riyaz was declared dead on arrival while Sajad was immediately rushed to SMHS, Srinagar, given the grave nature of his injuries.
“However, he died en-route to the hospital,” the MS said.
Both Riyaz and Sajad were working as government teachers.
While Riyaz was posted at Government High School Kundalan, Sajad taught at Government Primary School Pinjoora.
As the news about the death of the duo spread, the entire district plunged into grief with mourners flocking to the villages of the victims.
“Both were kind and hardworking. Their contribution to education and their dedication to the community will be missed deeply,” said a group of mourning teachers.
