2 SKUAST-K scholars to present research work in 3rd International Wheat Congress Australia

Srinagar, June 22: Two research scholars from the Division of Genetics & Plant Breeding at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) have been awarded travel grants and registration waivers to present their work at the 3rd International Wheat Congress (IWC) in Australia.

Dr Safoora Shafi received a travel grant from the Germany-based Wheat Initiative. Her presentation will focus on integrated omics-based approaches to cold tolerance in wheat, encompassing biochemical profiling, metabolomics, lipidomics, gene expression studies, proteomics, and genome-wide association studies (GWAS).

Farkhanda Jan has been awarded a registration fee waiver. She will present her research on integrated physio-biochemical characterization, genomics, metabolomics, and pre-breeding for understanding stripe rust resistance in wheat.

Prof Nazir A. Ganai, Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-K, congratulated the students on their achievements and commended the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Dr. R.R. Mir for mentoring the students to secure these awards.

Prof Raihana Habib Kanth, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at Wadura, encouraged the students to use this opportunity to network with Prof. Rajeev K. Varshney at Murdoch University in Perth, Australia. She emphasized exploring avenues for further collaboration and understanding the research ecosystem at Murdoch University to build capacity among SKUAST-K students.
