2 residential houses gutted in Bemina blaze
Srinagar, Dec 17: Two residential houses were gutted in a fire incident at Usmanabad in Bemina here this evening.
The officials said they received information about the fire incident at around 8.45 PM. They said multiple fire tenders from Headquarters, Safakadal, and JVC fire stations were pressed into service to extinguish the fire.
“The fire started from one of the residential houses and soon spread to the adjacent house. One of the houses was severely damaged, while another was partially damaged. The fire has been brought into control, and cooling operation is ongoing,” said the official.
The officials said that the cause of the fire is under investigation. Since the onset of winter, there has been a sharp rise in fire incidents in Srinagar. Many families have been rendered homeless amid bone-chilling cold.
An official said that since the use of heating gadgets has increased, households have become more prone to fire incidents amid a lack of precautions. Officials from the Fire and Emergency Services Department appealed to locals to take all the safety measures to keep such incidents in check.
