2 minors among 6 dead in Doda accident

Ramban, Apr 13:  Six persons, including two minor girls, died whereas four others sustained injuries when a van, in which they were travelling, plunged into a gorge on a link road in Khanpura in tehsil Phagsoo of Thathri in Doda district late Saturday evening.

Officials said, “A van (Eeco), bearing registration number JK06A-3089, on its way to Kathawa from Thathri, plunged into a gorge in Tantraypora-Khanpora in Phagsoo area of Thathri, resulting in the death of six persons, including two minors, and critical injuries to four others.”

Health officials at Trauma Centre Thathri said, “Two persons were brought dead whereas three others succumbed during the treatment.”

Officials said after providing medical aid, three critically injured persons, given their deteriorating condition, were referred to Government Medical College and Hospital, Doda for specialized treatment, where one more accident victim – a minor girl, succumbed to her injuries.

Hospital authorities at Thathri identified the deceased as Mukhtiyar Ahmed, son of Abdul Gani, resident of Bandoga; Riyaz Ahmed, son of Abdul Gani, resident of Phagsoo; Mohammad Rafi, son of Abdul Rehman, resident of Phagsoo; Ireena Begum, wife of Saddam Hussain, resident of Ghunti, Phagsoo, and a minor girl of Mohammad Amir, resident of Phagsoo.

Earlier, Block Medical Officer Thathri, Dr Basharat Zargar had confirmed the death of five persons and injuries to five others.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Headquarters Doda, Ajay Anand stated that three injured in critical condition were shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital Doda.

“However, out of three injured under treatment in GMC Doda, a minor girl succumbed to her injuries late this evening, thus taking the death toll to six,” officials said.
