Srinagar, Nov 1: Two non-local labourers were shot at by militants and injured late Friday evening in the Mazhama area of central Kashmir's Budgam district.

The labourers were identified as Usman Malik, son of Muhammad Julfan Malik and Sufiyan, 25, son of Muhammad Inaam Ilyas.

Both are residents of Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh.

“Usman has received bullet injury in right hand while Sufiyan has received bullet injury in right leg,” an official said.

Following the attack, the injured were rushed to Sub District Hospital Budgam for treatment.

Later, they were shifted to SKIMS Medical College, Bemina.

“Both the patients are being treated by orthopaedic doctors in the emergency ward of the hospital. The condition of both injured is stable,” an on-duty doctor at SKIMS Medical College, Bemina, said.

Soon after the attack, security agencies rushed to the spot and heightened security in Mazhama.

The security agencies including J&K Police, paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Army jointly launched a search operation in the area.

The vehicles were being frisked while security forces took control of the area to nab the attackers.

This was the sixth such militant attack in recent weeks.

On October 18, a corn seller from Bihar, identified as Ashok Chauhan, 30, was shot dead in a militant attack in Wandana, Malhora area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

He was temporarily residing in the Sangam area of Anantnag district.

On October 20, seven persons including a doctor and six local and non-local labourers were killed in an attack at Gund in the Gagangeer area of Sonamarg in Ganderbal district.

On October 24, a labourer identified as Shubam Kumar, 19, from Uttar Pradesh was injured after militants fired at him in the Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

The same day, four persons including two soldiers and two Army porters were killed after an Army truck was attacked in the Butapathri area, around 6 km from Gulmarg tourist destination.

The Army vehicle was en route to Nagin Post in the Affarwat range.

On October 28, three suspected militants attacked an Army vehicle and fired multiple rounds near the Line of Control (LoC) near Assan temple in Jogwan, Bhattal area of Khour in Akhnoor in Jammu district.
