2 houses gutted in Hawal blaze

Srinagar, May 18: At least two residential houses were gutted in a fire incident at Hawal area of Downtown.

As per the officials from Fire and Emergency Services, the fire incident occurred at Wantpora area of Hawal on Saturday.

The officials said that they received the information about the fire at around 11: 20 am. They said that multiple Fire and Emergency units and fire tenders were deployed to control the fire in the congested locality.

“We pressed multiple fire tenders from Headquarters, Gaw Kadal, SH Pora, Rainawari, Babademb, Nowshera to douse off the fire. The fire had engulfed the multiple stories of these houses. Our timely action kept the fire from spreading to other houses in the vicinity,” said the official, adding that initial investigation revealed that the cause of fire was a short circuit.

Meanwhile, the victims said that all their belongings, including cash, were gutted. They said that the fire inflicted heavy loss of property on them.

“Our sister was to be married and all her valuables and clothes were gutted. There was also a cash which was destroyed in the incident. The fire started due to a short circuit which spread in no time. We could not save any of our belongings,” said one of the female fire victims.
