2 houses gutted at Nowpora

Srinagar, Mar 25:  At least two houses were gutted in a fire incident at Nowpora area here today.

Officials of Fire and Emergency Services said the incident occurred in late evening of Sunday and gutted two houses located adjacent to each other.

The officials said that they received the information about the fire at around 10 pm. They said that multiple Fire and Emergency units and fire tenders were deployed to control the fire in the congested locality.

“We pressed multiple fire tenders from Headquarters, Gaw Kadal, SH Pora, Rainawari, Babademb, MR Gunj to douse off the fire. The fire had engulfed the attic portion of these structures, and we did everything to keep it from spreading to other houses in the vicinity. Two houses were gutted in the incident along with the belongings of the residents,” said the official, adding that the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Meanwhile, the victims said that all their belongings, including gold ornaments and cash, were gutted. They said that the fire inflicted heavy loss of property on them, and they cannot survive unless financial support is provided to them.

“We had gold ornaments and other belongings of our daughters that were gutted in the fire. We're only left with the clothes that we are wearing. We appeal to the general public and government to provide all necessary help,” said one of the victims.
