2 hardcore drug peddlers booked in Kupwara

Kupwara, Dec 2: Police on Monday detained 2 persons under NDPS Act in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district for their alleged involvement in drug peddling over the years, a senior police officer said.

He said that the duo had been found consistently involved in drug peddling and continuously lured local youth towards drugs.

“A dossier under NDPS Act was prepared against them following which a warrant was issued by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, subsequently the duo were detained on Monday,” he added.

He said that several FIRs had been lodged against the duo in past and based upon their continuous involvement in drug peddling, the dossier was prepared. "Following the execution of the warrant, the accused have been lodged in District Jail Poonch and District Jail Kathua, respectively" he added.

He identified the duo as Fayaz Ahmad Dar, resident of Halmatpora, and Majid Rehman, resident of Challgund Hyhama.

Meanwhile Police in a statement said, "In a determined effort to combat drug abuse and trafficking, Kupwara Police have taken stringent actions under the prevention of illicit traffic in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances (PIT NDPS) Act to target habitual offenders and curb the menace of narcotics in the area".

'Kupwara Police successfully executed two PIT NDPS Act warrants issued by the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, against two known hardcore drug peddlers Fayaz Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Ahmad Dar resident of Halmatpora, and Majid Rehman son of Abdul Rehman Khan resident of Challgund Hyhama. Following the execution of the warrants, the accused have been lodged in District Jail Poonch and District Jail Kathua,respectively," reads the statement.

"This action against them was initiated following the submission of material records, dossiers, and connected documents by the Senior Superintendent of Police, Kupwara. Additionally, Majid Rehman is also involved in two narcotics-related cases: FIR No. 26/2024 U/S 8/21 NDPS Act and FIR No. 138/2024 U/S 8/20 NDPS Act registered at Police Station Kupwara,".

"These decisive actions highlight the steadfast commitment of Kupwara Police to eradicating drug trafficking and abuse in the district. The detention of these habitual offenders under the PIT NDPS Act sends a strong and clear message to those involved in drug-related crimes" it reads.

"Kupwara Police remains resolute in its proactive approach to ensuring a drug-free society. The public is urged to support this mission by reporting any suspicious activities related to narcotics and contributing to the collective fight against drug abuse," reads the statement further.
