Jammu, Oct 20: Police on Sunday said that two separate First Information Reports (FIRs) were lodged in a case of clash over alleged bovine smuggling in the Sohanjana incident.

According to officials, a minor incident of clash had occurred between two groups, during the intervening night of October 19 and 20, over alleged bovine smuggling.

Cautioning people against rumour-mongering, the Police, in its official statement released on Sunday, said, “In light of recent rumours circulating about the incident in Sohanjana, we wish to reiterate our official stance. Some of the information shared on social media and messaging groups is misleading and does not accurately represent the events on the ground that transpired.”

“Our officers acted swiftly and effectively and there was no significant threat to public safety. The prompt response from the police ensured that the situation was controlled without further incidents. Two separate FIRs were lodged which demonstrates our commitment to address any incident or disturbances lawfully and responsibly,” the Police said.

Police also asked the people to rely on verified information only.

“We urge the communities to rely only on verified information from official sources and to report any concerns directly to the police. Spreading false information is harmful and can create unnecessary tension within the community besides attracting legal action. We appreciate your attention to this matter and encourage everyone to prioritize facts over hearsay,” it said.
