2 encounters underway in Kupwara
Kupwara Aug 28: Two encounters are underway in Tangdhar and Kamkadi areas of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
A fierce encounter is underway in the Tangdhar sector along the Line of Control (LoC).
Police said that an encounter broke out after the joint parties of Police and Army intercepted a group of two to three terrorists trying to cross the Line of Control (LoC).
However, they were challenged, triggering a gunfight.
“Heavy exchange of fire is going on in the Taad area near the LoC,” a senior Police officer said. “Additional reinforcements have arrived on the spot.”
He said the operation might be suspended at night due to darkness but the cordon has been tightened further.
An infiltration bid was also foiled in Kumkadi area of Kupwara, a senior Police officer said late Wednesday evening.
He said that a group of terrorists tried to sneak into this side of the Line of Control (LoC) following which they were challenged by a joint team of Police and Army.
“They fired at the security forces ensuing an encounter,” the Police officer said.
He said that the firing was going on in the area.
About the reports of the killing of terrorists, he said anything about that could be told after searches are carried out on Thursday morning.
