2 drug peddlers booked under PSA in Kishtwar: SSP
Kishtwar, May 19: Police Sunday stated to have booked two notorious drug peddlers under Public Safety Act (PSA) in Kishtwar district.
SSP Kishtwar, while divulging the details, said, “District Police Kishtwar, working on multi-pronged strategy to combat drug abuse, today booked two most wanted notorious drug peddlers from Kishtwar town under PSA (PITNDPS) and lodged them in District Jail Kishtwar.”
According to him, the individuals, Moomin Kamal, son of Asgar Ali Kamal, resident of Kamal Mohalla and Ajaz Ahmed, son of Khushi Mohammad, resident of Sirgwari Thakrie, were identified as the kingpins supplying drugs to the youth in Kishtwar town. “Their involvement in numerous drug peddling cases was uncovered during investigations, necessitating their detention under PSA (PITNDPS) to curb their activities and protect the youth of Kishtwar from drug addiction,” SSP said.
After obtaining the PSA orders, SSP Kishtwar constituted two special teams under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Kishtwar to arrest these notorious drug peddlers from different locations in Kishtwar. They were subsequently lodged in District Jail Kishtwar.
SSP Kishtwar said, “District Police Kishtwar is working on a comprehensive strategy to tackle drug abuse, including organizing awareness programmes across the district and taking strict legal action against drug peddlers.”
He also warned drug syndicates, asserting that there was no place for them in Kishtwar and asked them to return to the mainstream or face severe consequences.
“People are time and again requested to report any information related to the sale and consumption of drugs by calling the helpline number 9906154100, 9103454100 or through the Kishtwar Police Facebook page and Twitter Handle. The identity of informants will be kept confidential,” SSP said.
