2 drug peddlers arrested in Handwara
Kupwara, Nov 7: Two drug peddlers were arrested by Police at Watayen Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, Police said on Thursday.
A Police official said that following credible information about movement of drug peddlers a special naka was established by a team of Police at Watayen Chogal.
"During checking, two persons were intercepted and upon their personal search 16.92 grams of heroin-like substance were recovered from their possession, following which they were arrested on spot," he said.
The apprehended persons have been identified as Khalid Gani Shah and Basharat Bashir Khan, both residents of Maidan Chogal. A case vide FIR No.201/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Handwara and further investigation has been set into motion.
Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Handwara Ifroz Ahmad in a statement requested community members to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood.
He further stated that persons found indulging in drug peddling will be strictly dealt with under law and assured that such actions against drug peddlers would continue with zero tolerance to rid society from the scourge of drug menace.
