2 doctors arrested, AK-47 seized from doctor’s locker: Police
Srinagar, Nov 9: Two doctors were arrested, and an AK-47 rifle was recovered from the locker of a senior resident doctor at Government Medical College (GMC), Anantnag, on Saturday.
The weapon was seized during an operation by Srinagar Police, and the doctors hail from Qazigund and Pulwama.
“Two doctors have been arrested and one AK-47 rifle has been recovered,” senior Police officials said. “We are investigating.”
According to officials, the rifle was discovered inside the personal locker of a doctor at the GMC Anantnag.
Following the recovery, both doctors were taken into custody by the Srinagar Police.
A case has been registered under sections 7/25 of the Arms Act and Sections 13, 28, 38, and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
The investigation is being conducted by Srinagar Police.
Authorities are now questioning doctors to determine how the weapon ended up in the possession of one of the doctors and whether any larger network or motive was involved.
Police confirmed that all legal procedures were being followed as part of the inquiry.
Officials have yet to disclose the origin of the rifle or how it was brought into GMC Anantnag.
“The AK-47 is with Srinagar Police,” a senior official said, adding that further updates will be shared as the investigation progresses.
