2 convicted in cannabis resin trafficking case
Jammu, Sep 20: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Jammu zonal unit, has secured a significant conviction of two accused in a case involving the trafficking of charas (cannabis resin).
As per an NCB spokesperson, following a comprehensive trial, the Principal District and Sessions Judge, Samba, R N Wattal, with prosecution led by Special Public Prosecutor Bhupinder Singh Charak, found the accused, Harjit Singh and Raj Kumar, guilty under Sections 8, 20, and 60 of the NDPS Act, 1985.
The Court noted that the prosecution evidence, including the seizure, witness testimonies, forensic confirmation and voluntary statements, proved the case beyond reasonable doubt.
Principal District and Sessions Judge Samba observed that trafficking in such large commercial quantities reflected the criminal mindset of the accused and posed a grave danger to society, particularly the younger generation.
The court convicted both accused and ordered punishment in accordance with the stringent provisions of the NDPS Act, including rigorous imprisonment and a fine. The seized vehicle was confiscated under Section 60 of the Act, the spokesperson said.
