2 bovine smugglers arrested: Police

Ramban, Apr 7: Ramban Police arrested two persons and recovered 16 bovine animals illegally being transported to Kashmir through Srinagar-Jammu National Highway on Sunday.

Police sources said on the directions of SSP Ramban Anuj Kumar Ramban and Ramsu Police has foiled two bovine smuggling attempts, arrested two bovine smugglers, rescued 16 bovines and seized two vehicles.

They said a police team of Police station Ramban headed by SHO Ramban while performing Naka checking at Police check post Ramban on National Highway intercepted a vehicle bearing registration JK19A- 5498, Ramban. During checking seven bovines were found laden inside both the vehicles which were tied in a cruel manner and were being transported illegally.

They said Shabir Ahmed, a resident of Bhatti, Govindpura Ramban was arrested.

Similarly a police Party of Police Ramsoo headed by SHO Ramsoo intercepted a vehicle bearing registration No JK 02AW 3519 while checking nine bovine animals found loaded in a cruel manner in the vehicle.

Police said Shakeel Ahmed resident of Kokernag, District Anantnag was arrested. Police said 16 bovines were rescued.

Subsequently, a case FIR No. 73/2024 was registered at Police Station Ramban, and a case FIR No. 44/2024 at PS Ramsoo under Sections 188 IPC, and under the Prevention of cruelty to Animals Act. Two vehicles involved in the commission of offence have been seized.
