2 arrested with 5.3 kg heroin on LoC in Nowshera
Rajouri, Dec 16: Police and Army in Rajouri district in a joint operation against narcotics trafficking apprehended two individuals at Makri Bhawani, Nowshera near the Line of Control (LoC) on Monday.
During the operation, a 5.3 kg heroin-like narcotics substance was recovered from their possession.
Police have identified the apprehended accused as Sajan Kumar alias Vicky, son of Om Parkash of Nowshera, Rajouri, and Subash Chander, son of Pashori Lal of Nowshera, Rajouri.
Both the accused have been arrested and the contraband substance was seized in the presence of a magistrate.
In this regard, a case FIR No 178/2024 has been registered under Sections 8, 21, and 22 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Nowshera, and an investigation has been started.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajouri, Gaurav Sikarwar termed the operation a big success for the security forces.
“Details about racket involved in this smuggling, the forward as well as backward linkages of arrested individuals, and other aspects attached with the case are a matter of investigation,” he said.
Sikarwar said that a significant recovery of narcotics was made in this border village a few months ago after which J&K Police took a number of steps to keep a check on the activities of anti-social elements and people were requested to cooperate and these efforts are bearing results.
He said that the war against drugs was a collective responsibility of the entire society and every stakeholder in the society needs to work in close coordination to achieve the aim of a free society.
Sikarwar said that a number of drug peddlers had been arrested in the recent past in the district and significant recoveries had been made and this had happened due to the cooperation of the society.
