17th century building damaged in fire in Denmark

New Delhi, Apr 16: Denmark's famous Børsen building, standing tall in Copenhagen since the 17th century, has been badly damaged by a fire. The fire destroyed its iconic spire, which is a symbol of the city. Everyone got out safely, and efforts are being made to save valuable paintings inside.

The Minister of Culture, Jakob Engel-Schmidt, expressed sadness over losing four hundred years of Danish history and culture. The Børsen, next to Denmark's parliament, is very important to the country's history and business.

The fire started during renovations, making it hard for firefighters to reach the burning parts under the scaffolding. People were shocked, comparing it to the fire at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris five years ago.
