15 gastroenteritis cases reported from Qazigund village
Kulgam, July 22: Over a dozen residents suffered from gastroenteritis at a village in south Kashmir's Qazigund area on Monday. A health official told Greater Kashmir several residents from Kewa village suffered from diarrhoea and vomiting since Sunday .
He said that all the patients were treated and are stable "Most of them did not require admission to hospitals", said the official.
A resident from the village said that at least 15 people suffered from diarrhoea and vomiting.
Dr Saba Wani, Chief Medical Officer, Kulgam told Greater Kashmir over phone that a medical team visited the village and collected the water and faecal samples.
"We advised people to consume boiled water ", Wani said, adding that some 15 to 16 patients suffered from gastroenteritis . She said that people must spruce up their surroundings and pay special attention to their hygiene.
Wani said that the contaminated water might have caused the disease. There has been a gastroenteritis outbreak in south Kashmir since last week.
On July 19, around 100 residents from Trail village of Anantnag’s Bijbehara area suffered from diarrhoea and vomiting.
