130 athletes kick off district arm wrestling championships in Srinagar
Srinagar, Dec 7: The Jammu & Kashmir Arm Wrestling Association opened the Union Territory–level district arm-wrestling championships in Srinagar, drawing around 130 athletes from multiple age and weight categories to the Indoor Stadium in Srinagar.
As per a statement issued on Sunday, athletes from various age and weight categories, including Pre-Junior, Junior, and Senior, took part in the inaugural matches. Team coach Shaukat Ahmad Narwari shared details about the players’ preparations and the expected participation in upcoming events across the UT.
At the conclusion of the event, Association President Farooq Ahmad Dar distributed certificates and awards among the top performers across different categories. Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the ceremony, Dar said, “We are extremely delighted to begin the district-level arm wrestling championships from Srinagar. Our aim is to promote sports culture among youth and prepare them for major UT-level competitions. Such healthy sporting events help young athletes remain physically strong and mentally focused.”
According to the Association, district-level competitions will be held in other districts of Jammu & Kashmir as per the fixed schedule. These events are part of the preparations for the Grand UT-Level Championship slated for January–February 2026.
