Guwahati, Jul 28: Thirteen journalists from leading media houses in Assam embarked today on a week-long media tour to Ladakh, organised by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Guwahati.

The tour aims to offer participating journalists a first-hand understanding of Ladakh’s unique cultural landscape, developmental strides, and ecological models.

Representing a wide spectrum of media—including print, electronic, digital, and social platforms—the journalists are accompanied by two PIB officials. The delegation is led by Smita Saikia, Media and Communication Officer, PIB Guwahati.

Over the next seven days, the journalists will visit the Indian Astronomical Observatory and Hanle Dark Sky Reserve to explore Ladakh’s growing reputation in astronomical research and environmental preservation. They will also tour the National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa to learn about Ladakh’s indigenous medicinal system.

Other highlights include visits to infrastructure sites under the Border Roads Organisation’s Project HIMANK, and exposure to sustainable waste management practices under Project Tsangda. The group will also interact with local cooperatives engaged in pashmina and apricot production, showcasing the region’s traditional economy and livelihood systems.

The delegation will meet the Chief Secretary of Ladakh and engage with local media professionals in Leh, fostering inter-regional journalistic exchange.
