11-year-old’s body retrieved from Reasi nallah

Rajouri, Sep 1: The body of 11-year-old Basharat Hussain was recovered dead from the flooded Arha Nallah on Monday morning day after his mother’s body was also recovered from the water channel.

Officials said that Basharat and his mother, Zufa Begum, 40, were crossing the swollen stream on Sunday evening when both were swept away by strong water currents.

The incident triggered immediate rescue efforts by locals and the Police.

The body of the mother was retrieved late Sunday evening while the search for her son continued through the night.

Officials said that on Monday morning, the body of Basharat was recovered downstream with the joint efforts of local volunteers and the Police.

The death of the woman and her son has cast a pall of gloom in the Gulabgarh area of Mahore, where residents gathered in large numbers to mourn the deaths.
