10 injured after mass stabbing on Cambridgeshire train in UK

New Delhi, Nov 2: At least ten train passengers including nine people were left with life-threatening injuries after a mass stabbing on a train in Cambridgeshire, UK, the BBC reported.

According to Cambridgeshire Police, the incident occurred on the 18:25 service from Doncaster to London King’s Cross on Saturday evening. Police received emergency calls around 19:39 local time reporting multiple stabbings on board the train. Armed officers boarded the train after it was stopped at Huntingdon station, where two men were arrested within eight minutes of the first 999 calls, said Superintendent John Loveless of the British Transport Police.

The suspects, a 32-year-old Black British male and a 35-year-old British national of Caribbean descent, are both in custody and have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, police said. Superintendent Loveless said that 10 people were initially taken to hospital, and one more person self-presented later in the evening. Of the nine people initially believed to have life-threatening injuries, four have since been discharged, while two remain in critical condition.

“At this stage, there is nothing to suggest that this is a terrorist incident,” Loveless said. “It would not be appropriate to speculate on the cause of this incident.” The East of England Ambulance Service confirmed that several ambulances and air ambulances were dispatched to the scene. The incident has led to major disruption on the East Coast Main Line, with several services delayed or cancelled.

Witnesses described scenes of chaos inside the train. One passenger told the BBC they saw “a man bolting down the carriage with a bloody arm shouting, ‘They’ve got a knife, run!’” Another said they saw police Taser one of the suspects on the platform at Huntingdon. Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the attack “deeply concerning” and urged people to follow police advice as the investigation continues. “My thoughts are with those affected and the emergency services responding at the scene,” he said. Police have appealed to anyone with mobile footage or information about the incident to come forward. Investigators are reviewing on-board CCTV as part of the inquiry.
