A military statement said that troops have been deployed near communities close to Gaza, and preparations for possible “defence and offence” operations are underway.

Simultaneously, rocket barrages from Lebanon have triggered alarms across northern Israel, with the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) intercepting around 30 rockets overnight. Sirens have sounded along the western coast of Israel, from Haifa to Hadera, indicating continued attacks.

Meanwhile, global protests in support of Palestinians in Gaza took place on Saturday, in several countries with large demonstrations held calling for an end to the ongoing conflict. In Israel, protests demanding action to rescue hostages held by Hamas in Gaza.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that a possible successor to Hezbollah’s leader Hassan Nasrallah, Hashem Safieddine, may have been targeted in an Israeli airstrike on Beirut’s southern suburbs. Hezbollah has reportedly lost contact with him.
