1 killed in road accident inside tunnel at Chanderkote

Ramban, Jan 8: One person from Srinagar died in a road accident inside the two-lane Peerah-Kunfer Chanderkote tunnel on theSrinagar-Jammu National Highway on Monday evening.

Reports said the mishap occurred due to a head on collision between a car and an oil tanker.

Police sources said an oil tanker bearing registration number JK02CQ-9051 collided with a car bearing registration number DL10CF-5692 coming from the opposite direction. Driver of the car sustaining grievous injuries. He was immediately rushed to District Hospital Ramban where doctors declared him dead.

Police identified the deceased as 56 year old Javeed Ahmed Khanson of Gulam Nabi Khan a resident of Sazgaripora, Hawal Srinagar.

Senior Superintendent of Police Ramban, Mohita Sharma confirmed the death of a person in the accident. Due to the accident vehicular traffic movement was disrupted for some time. Officials said the damaged vehicle was removed with the help of a crane and traffic was resumed on the National Highway

Four accidents (head-on collisions) have occurred inside the two-lane Peerah-Kunfer tunnel in the past week.
