Budgam, Feb 6: One person was killed and another injured in an accident in the Soibugh area of Budgam district during the early hours of Friday.

The accident occurred at Pal Mohalla, Soibugh, when a motorcycle hit an electric pole near a residential area. The rider sustained critical injuries, while the pillion rider was injured.

The deceased has been identified as Bashir Ahmad Pal, son of Ghulam Ahmad Pal, aged about 40 years, a resident of Pal Mohalla, Soibugh. According to his family, Bashir Ahmad was on his way to buy bread for his shop when his muffler reportedly got entangled in the motorcycle wheel, causing him to lose control and crash into the electric pole.

He suffered severe head injuries and was initially taken to Community Health Centre (CHC) Soibugh, from where he was referred to JVC Hospital Bemina, Srinagar. However, doctors declared him brought dead. The deceased is survived by four children.

The pillion rider, Mushtaq Ahmad Malik, son of Ghulam Mohammad Malik, aged 48 years, also a resident of Soibugh, sustained injuries to his nose. Officials said his condition is stable, and he is undergoing treatment. Both injured persons were initially shifted to CHC Soibugh before being referred to JVC Bemina for advanced medical care. Police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated proceedings under relevant sections of law to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the accident.
