Ramban, Nov 18: One person died and two others were injured after an apple-laden truck skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge in the Nachlana area between Ramsu and Banihal on the Srinagar–Jammu National Highway (NH-44) on Tuesday evening.

According to police, the truck (registration number JK09B-2814) was on its way from Sopore to Agra when the driver lost control at Nachlana, causing the vehicle to roll down the embankments of Bisleri Nullah. All three occupants were injured and trapped inside the vehicle.

Rescue efforts were carried out with the help of 23 RR personnel and the civil QRT, who managed to retrieve the victims and shift them to the nearby Army Hospital in Nachlana. However, one of the injured succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital.

Officials identified the deceased as Abdul Majid Lone, 49, son of Mohammad Maqbool Lone, a resident of Magam, Handwara.

The injured have been identified as Manzoor Ahmed Peer, 34, son of Ghulam Mohammad Peer, resident of Geri Pore, Handwara and Bilal Ahmed Bhat, 46, son of Mohammad Ramzan Bhat, resident of Magam, Handwara.

Both injured individuals are undergoing treatment at the Army unit hospital in Nachlana, police said.

Police stated that the body of the deceased has been shifted to the mortuary of Sub-District Hospital Banihal (SDH) for post-mortem and other legal formalities.

Senior Superintendent of Police Ramban, Arun Gupta, confirmed the incident, adding that a case (FIR No. 72/2025) under sections 281 / 125A / 106 of the BNS has been registered at the concerned police station for further investigation.
