Ramban, Dec 3: One person was killed and two others sustained injuries after a Tata Sumo plunged into a deep gorge in the Krousa Nalla area of Sounder Dachhan in Kishtwar district on Wednesday.

According to official sources, the passenger vehicle bearing registration number JK17–2897 was on its way from Danrashi towards Sounder when the driver reportedly lost control, causing the vehicle to skid off the road and fall into the 40 meters deep gorge in Krousa Nalla.

Three persons were onboard at the time of the accident.

Rescue teams comprising police personnel and local residents rushed to the spot and retrieved the body of the deceased along with the two injured passengers.

The deceased has been identified as Rizwan Ahmad (19), son of Farooq Ahmad, a resident of Sounder Dachhan.

The injured were identified as Musaib Ahmad, son of Mohammad Rafi, and Mosin, son of Mohammad Yousaf, both residents of Sounder.

Both were initially shifted to District Hospital Kishtwar for treatment.

Medical officials said that due to his critical head injuries, Musaib Ahmad was later referred to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC) Jammu for specialized treatment.

Mosin is stated to be responding to treatment at District Hospital Kishtwar.

Former MLC, Kishtwar Firdous Tak visited the injured at the hospital and expressed deep grief over the incident. He demanded that the government provide adequate compensation to the family of the deceased and ensure the best possible medical care and financial assistance for the injured.

Tak also urged the authorities to expedite road construction and maintenance work in the area, stressing the need for blacktopping, installation of crash barriers, and other safety measures from Dangduru to Dachhan and other roads to prevent such tragedies in the future.

He conveyed heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family and reaffirmed solidarity with the affected community during this difficult time.
