Jammu, Sep 01: Police Sunday arrested a criminal with illegal firearms and ammunition in Gajansoo-Marh in Jammu district.

“In a significant breakthrough, the Police party of Border Police Post (BPP) Gajansoo apprehended a criminal namely Jeet Raj, son of Rattan Lal, resident of Galwadey Chak, Tehsil Marh, Jammu. He was arrested in the Galwadey Chak area, tehsil Marh of district Jammu today,” a Police Spokesperson said.

During the search of his vehicle, bearing registration number JK02AC-1647, the Police recovered a 12-bore double-barrel gun and two live cartridges concealed in the boot space of the vehicle.

“The seizure of the illegal weapon has raised concerns about his potential involvement in criminal activities in the region,” the Spokesperson said.

Following the arrest, a formal case has been registered under FIR No 135/2024 at Police Station Kanachak, under Sections 3/25 Arms Act.

“Investigations are actively underway to probe further into Jeet Raj’s activities, associates and any possible links to a larger network,” Police said.

SDPO Domana and Superintendent of Police (SP) Rural Jammu monitored the operation wherein the arrest and recovery was made.

“This arrest marks a crucial victory for Jammu police in curbing the circulation of illegal firearms and ensuring the safety of the local community. Further developments in this case are expected as the investigation continues,” the Spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, the Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities in their area to aid in the ongoing crackdown on crime.
