1 dozen sheep mauled in leopard attack at Udhampur
Ramban, Nov 22: Around a dozen sheep were killed in a leopard attack at Upper Mir Panchayat of Panchari area in Udhampur district last night.
Locals and police said that on Tuesday night a couple of leopards barged into cow sheds of Pavinder Singh and Surheet Singh and mauled 11 sheep and goats to death, whereas four sheep are missing.
Surjeet Singh in upper Meer Panchayat said he saw a leopard fleeing from the spot.
Later in the morning a police team and a revenue official visited the spot.
Locals said that the leopards are straying in and around the habitations and preying on their livestock.
They appealed to the Deputy Commissioner Udhampur to depute a wildlife team to guard the area.
Village representatives have appealed to the district administration Udhampur to provide compensation to the livestock owners.
