1 arrested in Doda: Police

Ramban, Mar 23: Doda Police has arrested a man for allegedly kidnapping and raping a minor girl.

Police sources said that Abdul Majeed son of Noor Mohammad resident of Bhejar Gandoh was involved in case FIR No. 91/2023 under section 376,363,344,109 IPC, 04/17, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, (POCSO Act) , 09/10 prohibition of Child marriage Act was registered against him at Police Station Gandoh.

They said the incident occurred last year when Abdul Majeed, a resident of the Gandoh area of Doda, allegedly eloped and married a teenager and then raped her. A charge- sheet against Majeed was filed in December, since then he was evading his arrest.

SSP Doda Javaid Iqbal constituted a special Police team led by SHO Police Station Gandoh Inspector Parvaiz Ahmed Khanday and the team after generating the information and after getting technical lead tracked down the absconder and finally arrested him from Srinagar.

The accused Abdul Majeed was brought to Doda where he will be produced in a court, they said.
