About half a dozen children today sustained minor injuries when a school van they were travelling in met an accident. The driver of the vehicle was critically injured.

According to sources the accident happened on Wednesday morning when the school van carrying the students collided with a car near Baggu Nullah Batote on Jammu Srinagar Highway.

Police said the accident occurred at 8:30 am when the school van bearing registration number JK02P-1893 on its way to Chenani from Batote was ferrying six students of Kendrya Vidyaly Chenani.

The van, according to police, collided with a Sakoda car bearing bearing registration number DL6CJ-7848 coming from opposite direction near Baggu Nullah Batote resulting in minor injuries to the students whereas the driver of the van was critically injured.

The injured— students as well as the driver—were rushed to Sher e Kashmir Memorial Emergency Hospital Batote where after providing medical aid to the students they were discharged. The driver identified as Mushtaq Ahmed son of Abdul Qayoom of ward number 7 Batote was referred to Government Medical Collage and Hospital Jammu for specialized treatment.

The vehicles involved in the accident were impounded.
