A high alert has been sounded in the summer capital for 48-hours after strong intelligence inputs that militants may carry out multiple attacks in downtown on security installations.

Police has also informed the Army about the militant movement in some parts of downtown and possibility of attacks by the militants on security installations.

A police communiqué issued by the Zonal Police Headquarters reads that the movement of militants was observed in downtown area of Srinagar.

“They were planning to carry out grenade attack/indiscriminate firing upoun security forces/ camps, establishment, deployments, specifically in Noorbagh, Nowhatta and Eidgah area of Srinagar in next two days,” the communiqué reads.

“The inputs shared for immediate preventive measures and develop the input to track/neutralise these operatives. Feedback of the input must be shared with us.”

The copy of input has been shared with the Army’s Srinagar-based 15 Corps headquarters. The Army has been kept in loop about possible militant strikes despite the fact it doesn’t operate in city.

Militants recently attacked a police patrolling party at Hyderpora killing one police man and leaving another injured. A police official said that militants have been moving around in the city and all the sources have been mobilised either to foil the attack or to track them out.

In the recent press conference, police had declared Srinagar militant free stating that militants do roam around in the city but don’t stay for long.

A police source said that all the Close Circuit Television sets (CCTVs) installed at various vital locations in Srinagar especially in Lal Chowk have been activated and mobile bunkers and cops from the Special Operation Group (SoG) men are keeping a close watch on the suspects.
