BSC Nursing students pursuing bachelor’s degree at Government Nursing College, GMC Srinagar today complained that they were facing tremendous hardships for want of hostel facility.
The students said that even as there is a full-fledged hostel block meant for girl students pursuing bachelor’s degree in the college,” it is not being allotted to the students for unknown reasons.”
A student who wished not to be named said they were forced by the college authorities to have private accommodation outside the college “which besides being unsafe for girls is costlier.”
"We have many a times approached GMC principal to provide us the hostel facility but every time our pleas have fallen on deaf ears," the students said adding that they failed to understand why the hostel was not utilized and the students were being made to suffer.
When contacted, Principal, GMC, Srinagar, Dr Qaiser Ahmed said that the top floor of the GMC Nursing College will be converted into hostel. “Presently we are working on the logistics like the security, laundry, the mess, etc. It will take some time.”
The principal GMC assured that within three months the hostel facility would be ready.
Meanwhile, the students appealed chief minister, Mehbooba Mufti to intervene into the matter. They threatened to come on roads if the demand is not addressed immediately.
