Kangan Town craves for potable water

The residents of Kangan town are craving for potable water as the taps have been running dry for the past one week. 

The locals said the closing of Wangath Canal has created the problem. “The Canal has been closed down without providing an alternative to the people,” they lamented.

AEE PHE Kangan, Afroz Ahmed told Greater Kashmir that the Waniarm Nallah, the main source of water for the town has dried up. The shut down in water canal feeding water to power house Kangan in view of some repair work has also adversely affected water supply to the town,” he said.

He , however, said the department was on job and every possible steps was being taken to restore water supply to the town. “For the time being we have pressed several watertankers into service. ,” he said.

Meanwhile, MLA Kangan Mian Altaf Ahmed has urged the adminstration to immediately restore the water supply to the town. He accused the PHE of failure to ensure proepr water supply to the town.

A local said the administration was victimising the people of the town for their affiliation with a particular political party. "This is political victimisation," he said.
