Scores of villagers from Kralpora area Friday blocked Chadoora-Srinagar road to stage protests against the Power Development Department (PDD).

The protestors were raising slogans against the department and the administration which according to the locals has failed to provide basic necessities like electricity to the people in these harsh winters.

Locals told Greater Kashmir that the area is reeling under due to damaged transformer.

"The transformer at Nowshad colony Drarambugh Kralpora was damaged last month. It was shifted to sub division Chadoora for repairs, but the transformer has not been repaired yet. Due to this, the colony is reeling under darkness and students are facing problems."

"None from the administration visited the spot and the stranded passengers are compelled either to walk by foot or return to from the area."

Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Chadoora Shabir Ul Hassan said, " I had sent a team to the spot to convince and assure the cognizance to the agitating people but they didn't comply. The transformer of the said colony is overloaded that is why it gets damaged every second day,” he added.
