The Power Development Department (PDD) has once again come under public criticism as most of the parts of Baramulla district are grappling under darkness.

Most of the areas throughout the Baramulla including Wagoora, Andergam are without electricity. “Our village is without electricity for past one week. We have to face huge inconveniences without electricity as the PDD has promised to repair the transformer,” said Ghulam Muhammad Parray of Andergam.

Parray said that over 150 households in Andergam are without electricity in these bad weather conditions. “Our elderly people and children are suffering the most," he said.

People accused the PDD of not having any such strategy to provide hassle-free power in Wagoora during winter. “Government installed power meters in 2007 but we never get power as per the schedule. We hardly get 3 hours of power supply,” said a resident of Wagoora Mushtaq Ahmad.

Ahmad said that after regular complaints of corruption against the officials of the PDD sub-division Wagoora, the office burnt into a mysterious fire in 2007 and was shifted to an Army camp. “We can’t even complain. This government shifted the civil office to the Army camp,” he said.
