Governor N N Vohra today batted strongly for raising of more State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) battalions for deployment in Jammu, Srinagar and Ladakh regions.

Addressing the 55th Raising Day of the Home Guards & Civil Defence (HG & CD) here, Vohra said that Jammu and Kashmir fell in seismic Zones-IV and V respectively, and were vulnerable to natural disasters, particularly earthquakes.

He reiterated that there was no substitute to SDRF, assisted by highly trained volunteers equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, to effectively deal with emergencies.

The governor appealed to the youth to come forward and volunteer.

Emphasising on the importance of relief and rescue work undertaken by the HG & CD in J-K, Governor Vohra said that since its inception in 1962, the organisation had been providing crucial assistance in dealing with natural calamities and management of festivals and other events.

The governor oversaw the launch of Fire Fighting Rescue Bikes.
