The newly appointed interim director of Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Dr Omar Javed Shah, assumed charge today while resident doctors of the institute ended their strike of five days.

In his maiden address to the faculty members, he stressed on the need to streamline the facilities and functioning of SKIMS while also preserving the prestige of the premier healthcare institute.

While acknowledging the importance of all SKIMS employees in delivering patient care, he said that government was closely monitoring the functioning of the institute and everyone’s contribution was important to make the institute an epitome of tertiary care.

After five days of strike against attachment of previous director Dr AG Ahangar, the resident doctors of the institute ended their strike today. A press statement of resident doctors association (RDA) of SKIMS said that the strike was being called off in interest of patient care. “The matter (of DrAhangar) is entirely sub-judice and pending inquiry,” said the statement.
