World diabetes day was commemorated with much fanfare across health institutions of Kashmir where screening camps, awareness programmes and discussions were held to address the growing burden of diabetes here, an official spokesman said.  

He said to mark the day, the department of biochemistry, government medical college Srinagar (GMC) on Tuesday held a free diabetes panel and diagnostic investigations camp. The camp was inaugurated by principal GMC Prof Samia Rashid and Dr Nazir Ahmad Malik, medical superintendent Lal Ded hospital. The camp was approved by International Diabetes Federation, Brussels, Belgium, he added.

At SK Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura, Department of Endocrinology, SKIMS in collaboration with department of community medicine and MP PCOS Society organized a day long programme at SKIMS auditorium with an aim to enhance awareness about diabetes among common masses, a SKIMS spokesman said. 

The event was attended by SKIMS Nursing College, Central university of Kashmir, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Kashmir and members of civil society. Besides, diabetic patients and staff from various departments of SKIMS also attended the programme, he added.
