Bakery shop booked for selling less weighing biscuit packs

On a complaint of a consumer against a bakery shop for selling pre-packed biscuits in lesser quantity and measurement in contrary to declared contents and weight mentioned in the packaging, Legal Metrology Department has booked the shop owner. 

“During the inspection of premises of the bakery shop, it was found that one kilogram of pack of biscuits was found short of about 100 grams. Morerover the digital scale used at the premises was found defective,” a spokesperson of LMD said. “Therefore, the challan case was made against the bakery shop for the short-weighment and the notice was served to the manager of the firm.” 

As per legal metrology laws, the label on the packed product must carry the mandatory declaration of Net Quantity besides other declarations printed.
